Agents in Business Central

From smart assistants to digital colleagues

Everyone is talking about AI—but most people are still asking, “How can we actually use it in our work and our ERP solution?”
With Business Central Cloud, AI and Copilot have become an integral part of your daily ERP routine. Microsoft is continuously adding new AI features and agents and at Vektus, we help you turn these opportunities into tangible value for your business.

What do we mean by AI, Copilot, and agents in Business Central?

AI in Business Central encompasses several aspects—from the built-in Copilot to
more autonomous AI agents that can take charge of entire processes.

Co-pilot in Business Central

Copilot is your AI assistant, built right into Business Central and Microsoft 365. It can suggest text, summarize, analyze, and help you move forward—right within the screens you’re already working on.

Built-in AI features

Business Central is continuously gaining new AI features such as assistance with reconciliation, suggestions, summaries, and analysis. These features follow Microsoft’s Release Waves and are already available to many cloud customers.

AI agents

AI agents are the next step: more autonomous digital “colleagues” that can monitor processes, suggest or perform actions, and work across your data and systems, according to the rules you define.

What can AI in Business Central already do today?

If you have Business Central Cloud, you already have access to a range of AI and Copilot features even if you aren’t using them yet.

Finance and controlling

AI can help you analyze key metrics, identify anomalies, and explain trends in a way that’s easy to share with management. Combined with Power BI, you can create powerful, visual reports and make better-informed decisions.

Purchasing, inventory, and planning

AI can support reordering, identify the risk of out-of-stock items, and detect slow-moving inventory. This provides better control over inventory, delivery capacity, and tied-up capital.

Sales and customer service

Copilot can help draft quotes, emails, and product descriptions, as well as summarize customer history. This saves time and helps your employees be better prepared when interacting with customers.

Management and decision-Makers

AI can translate complex data into concise, concrete summaries and dashboards. This provides a quick overview of where the company should focus its efforts—for example, on cash flow, delivery capacity, or capacity utilization.

What are AI agents—and how do they differ from Copilot?

Whereas Copilot typically helps you in the moment—when you’re working on a specific screen—AI agents are designed to take charge of a process over time.

For example, an AI agent can:

  • Have a clear goal (e.g., “keep creditor payments up to date”)
  • monitor data and events on an ongoing basis
  • suggest or perform actions automatically
  • work across systems using Microsoft’s AI infrastructure

Among other things, Microsoft is introducing agents for vendor payments and sales orders—and through Copilot Studio, it will be possible to build custom agents that work closely with Business Central.

Here’s how Vektus can help you with AI and Agents in Business Central

We don’t start with the technology – we start with your business. Together, we identify the areas where AI delivers the greatest value in practice.

Step 1 – We start with your processes
We look at the workflows where you spend a lot of time on repetitive tasks, rely on key personnel, or where errors are costly. From there, we identify 1–3 specific AI scenarios that can be tested quickly.

Step 2 – Data, security, and governance
We ensure that the data used by AI is relevant and up-to-date, and that permissions, roles, and logging are in place.

Step 3 – Activation and pilot projects
We help you activate and configure Copilot and relevant AI features in Business Central, build the initial scenarios, and set up simple follow-up processes so you can see the results.

Step 4 – Ongoing optimization and skill building
AI is not a one-time project. We can help you fine-tune the solution, train users, and expand into additional areas when you’re ready.

Where is Microsoft headed—and what does that mean for you?

Microsoft is investing heavily in so-called “agentic AI”—AI agents that can work more independently across the entire Microsoft ecosystem.
For you, this means, among other things:

  • More built-in agent features in Business Central
  • closer integration between Business Central, Copilot, Copilot Studio, and the rest of the Microsoft ecosystem
  • better tools for managing and monitoring agents as “digital employees”

At Vektus, we closely monitor developments, test new features, and assess when the technology is ready for use in Danish companies—and when it’s wise to wait.

AI in Business Central – Relevant for everyone, but not the same for everyone

AI and agents in Business Central are already available—to anyone with an up-to-date solution. The question isn’t whether you should use AI, but how to use it effectively: where it creates real value for your business.

Here’s what you should know:

  • Microsoft is investing heavily in making AI a natural part of Business Central.
  • The features are being developed on an ongoing basis—for analysis, text suggestions, and automation.
  • The benefits depend on how you combine the technology with your own processes and data.

AI typically adds value when:

  • You have many repetitive, rule-based tasks in finance, inventory, planning, or service.
  • A great deal of knowledge is held by key individuals, and you would like to make that knowledge more accessible to others.
  • You want a faster and better basis for decision-making—without getting bogged down in Excel spreadsheets.

Next step:
Start with a specific area, such as draft product descriptions, sales forecasts, or planning tasks. That way, you’ll quickly get a sense of where AI actually saves time and adds value.

Frequently asked questions about AI, Copilot, and Agents in Business Central

When companies start working with AI, Copilot, and agents in Business Central, a number of questions often arise: What exactly can the technology be used for? Where does it provide the most value? And how can you get started in a way that fits your business?

Here, we’ve compiled answers to some of the questions we most frequently encounter when speaking with Vektus customers.

AI in Business Central encompasses both Copilot, which assists users directly within the system, and more autonomous AI agents that can monitor and manage processes over time. While Copilot typically assists in specific work situations, agents can take charge of repetitive and rule-based tasks. Together, they make day-to-day operations more efficient and data-driven.

Copilot is built directly into Business Central and Microsoft 365 and can help with text suggestions, summaries, and analyses, among other things. This can include drafts of emails and quotes, explanations of numbers, or quick overviews of customer history. Many companies already have these features available but aren’t taking full advantage of them.

Typically, we see the greatest value in finance and controlling, procurement and inventory, sales and customer service, and at the management level. Here, AI can contribute to better analysis, faster decision-making, and less manual work. The benefits are particularly evident in areas involving many repetitive tasks or large volumes of data.

AI agents are more autonomous than Copilot and work across processes over time. They can monitor data, respond to events, and suggest or perform actions within the parameters set by the company. This makes them well-suited for tasks such as vendor payments, sales orders, and other recurring processes.

At Vektus, we focus on the business—not the technology. We identify the processes where AI can create tangible value, ensure a sound data foundation and governance, and assist with implementation and pilot projects. We then work continuously on optimization and capacity building so that the solution evolves in step with your needs.

AI in Business Central is relevant to most people, but not in the same way for everyone. The value depends on the company’s processes, data quality, and ambitions. That’s why we recommend starting in a specific area where the impact can be felt quickly, and then expanding at a pace that suits the business.
